Organizational Aims

Organizational Aims Concept

The organizational aims correspond to the results desired in an organization. Unlike the mission (that is defined in a generic form and not quantified), the aims must be specifically expressed and respect a series of requirements, namely:

  • Hierarchy: concerns the hierarchy of the aims in order of importance or priority, which will allow establishing interdependencies and sharing efforts to achieve them;
  • Consistency: the multiple aims defined should align themselves in a way that the efforts to achieve ones do not conflict with the efforts to achieve the remaining;
  • Measurability: are of little use the aims if it’s not possible to verify if they are being achieved or not and such is only possible if the aims are quantified and valued;
  • Timing: for the same reasons as the measurability, it’s also necessary to define the aims in time (with a deadline to be achieved and eventually with intermediate steps);
  • Realistic and challenging: should be possible to achieve but at the same time should be ambitious, forming a motivating challenge for all employees.
