Within the audiovisual and show industry, a prop can be defined as an object that is used in movies, series or theatre plays, and that is an essential part of the set, making it more real; sometimes a prop can even have an important role for the narrative. The props are essential and indispensable for any production, whether it is in the film and television industries or in theatre, since they contribute greatly to the creation of the visual environment of the story, being essential for the viewer to understand the contexts, space and timeframe where the action takes place. For example, if the story represented takes place in an old manor house in the XIX century, it is natural that the props used are oil paintings, pianos, and the male characters may have swords, while if it is a story that occurs in the future, in a distant planet, the characters can be seen using unknown technological devices, and all decorative elements in the scenarios will be futuristic. A prop can also have a strong impact on the narrative, the course of events may rely upon a single object: imagine the case where a very special jewel that was passed through multiple generations was stolen; in this case, with has the prop itself that would be the center of the development of the narrative.
The props can be divided into two major categories:
Scene props: objects that appear on set in order to create the intended visual atmosphere, like paintings, musical instruments, technological devices, or others.
Actor props: these are objects that the actors were, and that contribute to the creation of the character; some examples are glasses, swords, jewels, etc.
Bothe types of props are very important for the story, and they must always be in consonance, since its utilization is also fundamental to maintain the raccord of the narrative, both in cinema and television.
