Harry Potter (saga)

Harry Potter is a literary saga that belongs to the fantastic genre, and that is composed by seven book, written by the British author J. K. Rowling.

The books tell the story of a young orphan, Harry Potter, who at 11 years old finds out he is a wizard. Harry had lived so far with his uncle, aunt and cousin in a nice neighbor in London suburbs, and is then introduced to a new magic world, and starts his studies at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Besides learning magic and discovering everyday new things about the secret world he belongs to, Harry finds out more about his own past, marked by the tragic assassination of his parents when he was only 1 year old by the dark wizard Lord Voldemort; on the night of the homicide, Voldemort also tried to kill little Harry with a deadly curse that no one has survived yet, but Harry didn’t die and the curse destroyed the powerful Dark Lord, without anyone understanding exactly how or why.

Throughout the saga, Harry learns innumerous spells and charms, discovers lots of magical creatures, like unicorns, dragons or hippogriffs, makes new friends and finds out that Lord Voldemort is actually not dead, and his trying is hardest to come back to the wizarding world and get his revenge from Harry, who will have to use all his skills to defeat Voldemort and free the entire world from dark magic.

The first book of this saga was published in 1997 and it quickly became a worldwide success; all the following volumes were also extremely well received by the public, until the last book, published in 2007.

The success of the saga was so great that the producer Warner Bros. acquired the rights to adapt the books to the big screen, and soon after the publication of the first book, the first of eight films (since the last book was divided into two movie adaptations) was released. The movies were released between 2001 and 2011, and achieved great success as well.
