Biography of Muhammad Yunus

Born in 1940 in Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus is an important economist and banker, who was worldwide known in 2006, year in which he was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution in the fight against poverty.

In the decade of 70, finding the difficulty that poor people had in the resource of bank credit in their country, Bangladesh, recently separated from Pakistan and extremely impoverished, creates the Grameen Bank (Village Bank) and develops the micro-credit concept to help the poorest people and due to the inexistence of warranties, had difficulty in obtaining bank loans.

He is the author of the bestseller “Banker to the Poor”.
